leadership

as a leader, your greatest asset is not your leadership skill. it's not your team of people that work with you. it's your people.

if a leader leads a group of people who does not follow, is he still a leader ? would his actions and behaviour still an example to the people around him ?

therefore as a leader it is very important to know the people under your authority and give them a clear picture of what are you getting them into. set a clear path for your team to follow so that in the event you're not around, your team could manage your people well.


most of the time, things don't go your way. your people will be feeling the effects of the setback too. as a leader you must know how to handle such situation when it happened. find a way to overcome it, if not, take a detour. your people will have more confidence when they know that their leader has a plan B and C.


there will always be a leader above your leader. if you're a leader yourself, there will definitely be someone you will be answering to. stay faithful to him and you'll pick up some good for yourself and your people


when you start on a job, finish it. you're a winner even if you finished in last.

talent vs dream

there is a line that divides what you are talented to do and what you dream to do



you could be very talented in drawing building structures and furniture layouts but you dream of being a lawyer

you could be a very good lawyer but you want to try out being a chef in a 5 star restaurant


your talent could even be the direct opposite of what you're very good at

but there's nothing wrong in pursuing your dream. it's perfectly fine and it's good to be chasing after your dreams. but because your dream is something new to what you can already do, you will encounter some difficulties along the way

some jobs requires you to learn some skills or some system that the company is using. some jobs requires you to brush up your communication skills. some just want you to be capable of leading people through tough times.

but the main thing here is the training required. if you can go through it like a breeze, good for you

but if you cannot cope with the training, it's ok, just work harder. if you refuse or give up halfway, where's in it for you to get that job ?

don't forget about the wilderness experience.

wedding plans

so we (lijuan + jianwei) was discussing about how much would wedding cost the couple in monetary terms on Sunday afternoon after service+shopping at the metro expo sales at burger kings'

Lijuan: No lor, you need to pay for everything. even if everyone is your friend, still need to give angpao as a token...
Me: Even so, how much can these people cost ? I think just a normal treat at someone where will do. can right ? :D
Lijuan: Can la, but then the girl's parents must agree la...if not come so far to eat lunch so paiseh leh...
Me: Hm...how about make your wedding thing on the MRT ? :D
Lijuan: O_O MRT!? Then how, walk the aisles from Tampines MRT!?
Me: No la...walk from NEL Punggol. when it reach somewhere near Harbourfront the ceremony will end then can also bring everyone to the lunch receiption at harbourfront :D

I'm going out again

very very high chances of me posting out from this place again. PRAISE GOD!!! :D

ever since I come back here I wasn't really happy because of certain things and certain people here

but I don't hate them. if this is the way this place is run then I will adapt and change toward what this place is required of me

and I pray that the new place I'm going to will be a happier one (STAY OUT PLEASE!! :D)





I want to stop taking leaves/off for cellgroup...I want to go for cellgroup the normal way

some random thoughts...

what is time ? why do you measure time in hours and minutes ? why is 1 hour 60 mins and not 100 mins ?

why is 1 day 24 hours ? why not 10 hours ? 5 for the day and 5 for the night ?

why do people get anxious when 1 timing for something that is demanded of them ?

patience is a virtue. how patient can you be until you lose your patience ? could your patience last more than 1 day ? 1 month ? 1 year ? what about waiting for 10 years ? 20 years ?

how long will it take for you to get anxious and try to push forward the date for something to be fulfiled ? will it be better if you get what is intended for you in the future now ?

what if...

after being a Christian for almost 7 years now, I see a lot of things going on around me...

people backslide and came back to God and backslide again


and a common reason they give is "sorry I got no time" or "God didn't answer my prayers"


so...what if God really answers all your prayers ?

if you met a customer with a bad attitude and then in your heart you curse him, next moment that man fell dead. will that accomplish anything good ?

if you were to meet up with your friend to go to the mall and your friend is late because of sleep, you wished he would wake up earlier. he did for the next meeting but because of lack of sleep he staggers around the mall with you, would that make you happy that he's early ?

and if you're broke and you wished for money, God answers your prayers and gave you money but if God always answer this prayer, how will the world continue to prosper ? no one will be working or spending time and effort to make things better. people will stop manufacturing goods to sell for money because they already have more than enough money. how will you then buy things with your money ? will people stop stealing things because they have money or will it be worst because they cannot buy anything with money ?

money isn't going to change the world, but it's the mindset of the value of money that will inevitably change how we see and think about the rest of the world.


people pray for good health all the time, their lifespan to be extended. but if everyone prays this and every one of these prayers are answered, how many people will there be on Earth ? wouldn't the Earth get overpopulated with people ? how much land will we have left to grow food ? when there's no food, would anyone turn against his one kind and commit cannibalism ?

I'm sorry to say this, but we do not live like the times of adam before he fell. we live in a place where there has to be a balance of this and that. too much of this and you'll suffer from that, vice versa, too much of that and you'll suffer from this

give and take. there are things you cannot have all the time.

but never give up your faith, even in your darkest hour keep praying, because you'll never know when will the prayer be answered. and if you're going through a bad time it is not to make you give up your faith. God loves you and He will never let you go through anything alone. Trust God and keep your faith strong because after these things you'll grow up to be a stronger man in God

ok so here's how it wind up to this...

first of all, my first name "EUGENE" is...

English form of Eugenius, the Latin form of the Greek name Ευγενιος (Eugenios) which was derived from the Greek word ευγενης (eugenes) meaning "well born". It is composed of the elements ευ "good, well" and γενης (genes) "born". This was the name of several saints and four popes.

This name was not particularly common in Western Europe during the Middle Ages. It became more popular in part due to the fame of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736), a French-born general who served the Austrian Empire. A notable bearer was the American playwright Eugene O'Neill (1888-1953)

and as all of you can see/read, I'm quite well off already (read all the previous posts and see how blessed I am) :D


so I wanted a new name and I didn't quite know what I want. so I made a guideline:

the new name must be something that will remind/make me into a person of that character of ther person that is called by that name

so I thought, I asked and I prayed and quite finally I got a vague answer: Zack

there was someone else I know known as Zack...so I expand on it and arrived at Zechariah :D

and the meaning of Zechariah is...

From the Hebrew name זְכַרְיָה (Zekharyah) meaning "YAHWEH remembers". This was the name of many characters in the Old Testament, including the prophet Zechariah, the author of the Book of Zechariah. The name also appears in the New Testament belonging to the father of John the Baptist, who was temporarily made dumb because of his disbelief. In some versions of the New Testament his name is spelled in the Greek form Zacharias. As an English name, it has been in occasional use since the Protestant Reformation.

and interestingly I found another variation of the name Zechariah:

I was angry...

and I was frustrated.


I was quite young when I first discovered this maddening rage that I have...


made some wrong choices of words too...and that lifestyle changed my life...


I had never known what will happen in the future then.


I thought it will be better to be like that, out of so many different personalities to have I chose this...

From young I never really make friends because I was told not to go to other people's homes, not to borrow anything from anyone. Basically, don't give people a chance to make you owe them a "favor".

so I because a loner. and I liked it. I don't know why but I like it. But there's this frustration and anger that tags together with it.

over the years I have learnt to live with it, thinking that it's nothing wrong, just making my presence felt.I strive for people's attention all the time, now that I think of it..doing crazy things, saying crazy stuff


then came 1 day I decided to control myself for a change...but my fustrations didn't let it. so I decided that whenever I was to be angry I will hold it in and not allow it to explode externally. The result is hyperventilation. First time it occurred it was painful. and it was like a few years since I really felt pain. I couldn't move. I was breathing but it seems that nothing is flowing into my lungs. took quite a while to get out of it but it took a toll on my entire body's muscles. I had body aches for like 3 days...


then I tried to be more optimistic. I tried to interact with other people and I got a better results. I don't feel angry all the time because I started to accept people acting the way they are and there's nothing you can do about it. but whenever I felt anger, it was as bad as ever, just that the control was greater over it. and with the anger, compulsive thoughts come into my mind... different scenarios of how will the situation turn out runs through my mind and my compulsion will try to choose 1 of them for me to act it out. most of them are bad. really bad. sometimes I see stuff like I took the offender's head and slam him face first into the ground. I don't think I'm capable of doing it but with those thoughts tempting me, I might attempt at it.

I don't know why I have such compulsive thoughts. I don't like them and I want to get rid of them. I don't like to be violent, and I don't want to hurt myself anymore.

seriously...I was never happy here ever since the day I came into this place

there's a lot of politics going, everyone hates everyone and wishes each other to do well in detention

"when there's a problem, you die yourself, and I will make sure you get to die for it" seems to be a fitting statement for this place...

each political statement made is back up by another political statement to try and cover up the first political statement made

I don't know if this is just the work of 1 person or this is how this place is supposed to be...

men, fueled by their adrenaline, do crazy things...well I did too...


I was angry.

I was furious.

I was so enraged a few times, I broke quite a few things at home.

I made a dent in the cupboard.

I shredded cans.

I took out a rotary chair.

yet I was still angry.

like the way Logan was angry in the movie.

once I slammed someone down the window (thank God he didn't fall off).

once I raised my fist against someone I'm not supposed to.

once I was about to lose it all again I had to stop myself from moving and just go into hyperventilation.




been in church for quite some time now. I don't feel much rage as I did before. but I know this isn't the end of this problem. I still feel that insanity inside when I'm frustrated.

looking back, was this all got to do with how you are brought up ? in an environment where you put someone down or he will 1 day put you down. or was it all just me and my imagination ? I think too much sometimes.

I want to get rid of it.

but anyways...I was thinking about last last last week's make-up cellgroup at Bettina's house when Sabrina, the CGL, asked, "when should guys stop playing games?"

well...actually we can't because it's one of our top 5 needs...so sorry ladies...go play with your man on Xbox360 :D

what's so bad about games anyway ? you go online, you play, you have fun and you get to interact with people all over the world. you get to learn their native language, their culture, and how to handle your finances, how to do business, what to do when there's inflation (whenever a mass dupe or new item appears there's bound to be a huge change in the game's market) and how to manage your anger (when people come and disturb/bully you and you gotta keep calm or risk creating more problems. simple cause and effect scenerio :p) and the best part is, you do it at the comfort of your own home. GREAT!! :D

and research has found out that...if you're a gamer you tend to be more alert and notice more things than those who do not, especially good when you're a formula 1 driver...

or the guy who drove the tofu shop car around :D

went and watched movie together with Hui Shan today. Actually it was a very last minute thing, she just dropped a SMS and got me out of the house :D

well at first we couldn't decide what we wanna do. Praise God she's an independent...so we ended up watching...



I kinda like it though. It's like a story of a story, really makes me wonder if there is really such a story of the characters in the book. It's like a new concept of film genre or something like that. A story that tells a story of another story. I look forward to the next episode :)

which means...
1) No more Thursday Cellgroup meetings
2) No more coming online and brag on my blog
3) No more fun
4) X_X

but...I guess if you count your blessings...
1) Cut down on transport fee
2) No need to wake up so early
3) Got more time to "play" in "gym"
4) Got chance to go overseas when the guys in camp goes for overseas training
5) Got chance that camp allows PSP in :p
6) Got chance to sleep alone in a bunk
7) Not much distractions at night
8) Can sleep later...I hope :D
9) No need to spend so much money since everyday in camp

you would realise that it could be a better place than Nee Soon camp...


It's a artillery camp, which means (in my humble image of artillery camp) that they have artilleries shelling the camp at every moment you stop and think about what's for lunch, everyone dons a helmet and a bodysuit armour, and anything flammable is not allowed in camp. For everything else, it's smittereens

you gotta wear the helmet and the bodysuit armor when you sleep as well, since you don't know when a shell will hit you when you're in lala land :D

our home just got bigger...

YAY~

our house just got "bigger" :D

and nope we didn't do any upgrading...we just discovered it to be bigger. maybe even obese :p

but anyways I'm moving to another camp up the road. and if I'm not wrong I will have a room to myself yay~

it's a good day today~~

met up with my "ex" NYP friend today (actually it's yesterday but well since I meant this post to be on 1 Jan 2009 might as well play on and say it's today :D)


but some of us could make it for the entire programme...which is as follows:

1700 - 1830 watch movie
1830 - ???? eat something
???? - ???? whatever~ :D

so the actual meet-up time is 1830 :)

but for the rest of us (Trudy, Mark, Clarence, Carrisa) we watched...

BEDTIME STORIES!!! yay~~

really wanted to watch this show. HAHA!!! :D

LOL I like little kids stuff...

after the movie we went to eat at Suki Sushi. 99 cents sushi...WA!! ate 11 plates >_<

we stopped at Rochor Beancurd (豆花) to get some 豆花 before setting off yet again to the esplanade

but it was late, so we decided to eat it at Citylink. new experience eating there :D

but anyways most of us took the Jurong East bound train (can't remember it's N-S line or E-W line >_<) and I got home at 0030 yay~~

had great fun with these guys, you know, they are like, so lively, so happy...

yea I'm happy too but I wish that...well...I want to be more lively, like them
